About the Gallery

“This gallery is featuring artists of great caliber, and is building a reputation for itself in Northern California."
- Susan Laird, Village Life Newspaper

"This show rivals recent showings of California art at the Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento, and future exhibits promise to be of additional cultural significance. Folsom’s little free, community art gallery is absolutely worth taking the time to visit."
- Village Life Newspaper

"Teaching Art Inside"

November 17, 2017 to January 18, 2018

Paintings, prints and other art by former Arts-in-Correction artist/teacher, Jim Carlson, and a selection of incarcerated artists from the Arts-In-Corrections Program at California State Prison, Sacramento (New Folsom)

When visitors first think of Folsom, often images of the famous prison and Johnny Cash’s hit song Folsom Prison Blues come to mind. The City of Folsom and the California State Prison have had a long-standing relationship ever since Johnny Cash’s famous concert at the prison in 1968. With the 50th Anniversary of Cash’s concert this January, the Gallery at 48 Natoma (which is located in the Folsom Civic Center, just neighboring the prison) is featuring a very special exhibit beginning November 17, 2017.  “Teaching Art Inside” will feature paintings and prints by former correctional art instructor James Carlson and artwork by incarcerated artists from the Arts-In-Corrections Program at the California State Prison, Sacramento (New Folsom Prison).  A special bonus display will include a selection of Johnny Cash memorabilia from the John R. Cash Revocable Trust in the exhibit.
