The Public Works Department is responsible for design and management of capital improvement projects and the maintenance of City streets, roads, street lights, traffic signals, and storm water drainage facilities. Department staff also manage operation of the City's transit system and Folsom Stage Line.
The mission of the Public Works Department is to provide timely and cost-effective public works services and programs that ensure the community's health, safety and welfare; protect and enhance the environment; further orderly development of the City's infrastructure; and, exemplify a total commitment to customer service.

Public Works Day
Every year, the Public Works and Community Development Department celebrates Public Works Day to commemorate the achievements of public works in the daily lives of all Americans.
The City of Folsom's celebration is scheduled each year during the American Public Works Association's nationally proclaimed "National Public Works Week", which is observed during the third full week of May. In 2014, Public Works Week is May 18 through May 24.
The 2014 national theme is "Building for Today, Planning for tomorrow" represents the classic idea of steardship embodied by the profession of public works and the professionals that practice it. Focusing on the communities; "building" points out the day to day aspect of public works that is quality of life, while "planning" references the sustainable practices that quality of life for future generations.
The City of Folsom celebrates Public Works Day every year on the Wednesday of National Public Works Week. Other City Departments join in the fun and create a joint Public Works and Public Participation Day. This event gives visitors an opportunity to meet City employees and gain information about the many City departments. Please join us for the fun each year.
The next City of Folsom Public Works and Public Participation Day is scheduled for Wednesday, May 21, 2014. It will be held at City Lions Park (next to the Library) between 9:30 and noon.
