How do I contact Planning Services?

Answer
Planning Services is located at 50 Natoma Street, on the 2nd floor of the City Hall Building. You may contact Planning Services by calling (916) 355-7222, or by emailing us at

What do I need to do to operate a business at my residence in the City of Folsom?

Answer
You will need to obtain a Home Occupation and Business License Permit from Planning Services. The application form is available on the website or at the Planning Services Counter.

How much does a Home Occupation and Business License Permit Cost?

Answer
There are three fees associated with a Home Occupation and Business License Permit. There is a one-time Home Occupation Permit Fee ($25.00) and New License Review Tax ($21.00). In addition, there is an annual fee ($40.00) for the Home Occupation Business License, this fee is prorated based on when the application is submitted. The following table shows Initial Home Occupation Fees:

What are the setback requirements for building a swimming pool?

Answer
A swimming pool must be setback a minimum of 4 feet from rear or side property line and 4 feet from any easement. In addition, the edge of the swimming pool must be at least 5 feet from any permanent structure and a minimum of 10 feet from a sliding glass door. To learn more, click on the following link:

Answer
An accessory building must be setback a minimum of 5 feet from the rear or side property line and 8 feet from the primary structure. In addition, the maximum height of an accessory structure is 15 feet.
