Historic Sutter Street Revitalization Project

This exciting community-driven Revitalization Project is the result of more than four years of collaboration and hard work by Historic District merchants and residents, City officials and historic preservationists.  Project elements include:

  • Repair of aging water and sewer infrastructure
  • Improved access for people with disabilities
  • Removal of the center medians
  • Addition of more than 100 beautiful shade trees (Chinese Pistache, Ornamental Pear, Maple, Valley Oak and others)
  • Creation of on-street parking and short-term delivery areas
  • Widening sidewalks to accommodate shoppers and outdoor eating areas
  • Removal of monolithic shed roofs and addition of new facades and canopies
  • Addition of bicycle racks and benches

The City Council awarded a construction contract to Teichert Construction on Jan. 12, 2010.  The project was completed in May 2011.
