Welcome to the City of Folsom Business license community. A business license is an annual tax for doing business within the Folsom city limits. The Folsom Municipal Code requires that you obtain a license when you conduct any buisness activity within the City even if your business is located outside the city limits or you have a business license from another city. Any business based in the City must have a license as well.
Business License Renewals
All business licenses expire on June 30th of each year. Renewal notices will be mailed annually in June. It is the responsibility of the business owner to renew their license. If a renewal notice has not been received by July, please contact the Business License Department at 916-355-7312 or email@example.com

Types of Licenses
Home Occupation: Issued by the City’s Planning Department for applicants operating a business out of their Folsom residence. Fill out the Business License Application and complete the second page which includes a questionaire.

General (Annual Gross Receipts): Every business, other than those listed elsewhere. This includes retail, landscaping service, most out of town vendors, beauty salons, wholesale, restaurants, apartment complexes, commercial day care centers.
Manufacturing, Wholesale, and Service Professional: Doctors, dentists, accounting firms, consultants, real estate brokers, massage therapists, individual hair dressers (cosmotologists), estheticians, and manufacturing firms.
Commercial, Industrial, and Research & Development: Any business in a commercial zone that does not fall within any other category. (ie. Intel, HP).
Contractors: Are not required to have individual business licenses if the work they are performing requires them to pull building permits for their jobs in Folsom. There is a $25.00 business license fee charged on each building permit.
Sub-Contractors: Are required to have individual business licenses.
Exempt Business Licenses: Business must provide proof of exempt status.
Specialty: Includes Special Event, Itinerant Vendors, Peddlers, solicitors, or street stands.

Taxi's: Taxi Companies and Taxi Drivers are required to have a Police Department Permit as well as business license. The business license department will not accept applications until approval by the Police Department has been granted. For applications, please contact the business license department.
