2008 Cultural Arts Grant Program
Since its inception in 1996, the Cultural Arts Grant program has had applications for funding requests due in October with grant awards announced in December. Grants are made for programs taking place in the following calendar year.
As arts organizations have become more developed, they have begun to offer seasons starting in the fall. Due to the marketing and production efforts necessary to kick off each season, these volunteer-based organizations are finding it increasingly more difficult to find adequate time to dedicate to the Cultural Arts Grant application process, which coincides with the start of their season.
Similarly, there is a clear conflict with the school year schedule and the Cultural Arts Grant cycle. The preparation process starts well before the school year begins.
This has prevented many schools from applying to Folsom’s grant program.
Also problematic is that applications are available and workshops are held in the late summer, which is not convenient to many potential applicants. Given these issues, the grant cycle was changed to accommodate the schedule of the potential applicant pool and work better within the City’s budgeting structure. The City of Folsom and the Folsom Arts and Cultural Commission (FACC) administers the Cultural Arts Grant Program. The grant program makes a limited amount of funds available to assist with partial support of community art projects. These funds are awarded through a competitive process to Folsom non-profit art organizations and educational institutions that have applied to FACC for grant assistance. Grantees must meet high standards of artistic quality, respond to the needs and interests of the community and exhibit managerial and fiscal accountability.
