Teen Council

What is Teen Council?
The Folsom Teen Council is a group of high school students from both Folsom and Vista that actively participates in events relating to community service within the City of Folsom. The club is outside of school through the Folsom Parks and Recreation Department. Topics which may be addressed by the Teen Council include recreational activities, community involvement, safety, health and drug awareness. The Folsom Teen Council provides the opportunity for teens to have a “voice” in the community.

What does Teen Council do through out the year?
Teen Council will be involved all year long, and weekly, with an after school program at Theodore Judah elementary school called STARS. Teens will help the kids with homework, reading, play time, art projects and any other recreational activities deemed appropriate. The teens will act as role models for the kids. Also, Teen Council will be involved with community events such as the Renaissance Faire, Folsom Mayors Cup, Holiday Lights and Eggstravaganza.

Why should I join Teen Council?

There are several reasons why you should join! One, it looks great on college applications. Two, it’s a lot of fun and you’ll make new friends. Three, it counts for community service hours. Four, you will actually make a difference in the community by mentoring kids at the STARS program.

What is required to join Teen Council?
If you’d like to join all you have to do is fill out the attached application (please make it legible). If you know you’d like to be a mentor at the STARS program we require additional information from you. You have to fill out a category 1 volunteer form from the school district and have a TB test. Both are very easy to do and shouldn’t take more then a couple of minutes.

How do I know I am accepted?
After you return the application we will email you to let you know if you’ve been accepted. If you do not give us a valid email address on your application, you’ll never know if you made it into the council or not.

Who do I contact for more information?

The advisors for Teen Council are employees of the Folsom Parks and Recreation Department. Their names are Kelly and Kaitlin. They can be reached at 916-351-3505 or kford@folsom.ca.us.

When does the Teen Council meet and how will I be notified of meetings?

Teen council has not determined an exact date for the first meeting yet. Once you fill out an application we will notify you by email of the meeting date. Otherwise, Teen Council meets once a month on pre-determined dates voted on by the council.
