EAGLE SCOUT PROJECT INFORMATION
At the current time this program is suspended. Please contact Jill for more information.
Thank you for your interest in working on your Leadership Service Project at the Folsom City Zoo Sanctuary. Please read carefully the following requirements for performing your projects at the zoo.
Due to limitations in our budget, we are no longer able to offer any funding assistance for your project.
Written plans are an important component of insuring the project will meet both the needs of the scout and of the zoo. We do not expect anything fancy! However, we do expect written plans and drawings to have sufficient details to represent the work you will be doing. If you must make changes to your plans (as often happens!) those changes must meet approval by zoo staff prior to commencement of work. This is important for the ongoing success of your project, and can be a critical safety issue in many cases. Your project can positively impact our facility, staff, animals and visitors for many years, but only if you follow the plans that were approved.
If there is an occasion in which your group might perform work at the zoo, you may submit advanced notice of intent to work at the zoo. Any scout groups and their volunteers must sign in at the ticket booth and meet with the zookeeper in charge prior to commencing work each day. Zoo areas that are behind safety fences are very dangerous. There is to be no climbing of zoo fences; climbing fences is immediate grounds for permanent termination of the project. Any scouts/volunteers found in any area that is not directly involved with their project will be sent home. All zoo volunteers must adhere to safety procedures or the project may be terminated immediately. All zoo volunteers (and parents of volunteers under the age of 16) must sign a release of liability and our "hands-off animal touching policy" prior to working at the zoo.
We understand that the Boy Scouts of America have high expectations for your success with this project. We will accommodate your needs and provide a safe working environment to the best of our capability. For staff at the Folsom City Zoo Sanctuary to sign off that your project was successfully completed, we will expect that your project be completed within the above parameters. If these parameters are not met, we may exercise the right to terminate the project. We look forward to working with you. Good luck with your project!
