Radio communications, technology advancements, and interoperability are critical behind the scenes elements of the Police Department’s daily operations. This section is tasked with the coordination of radio communications for the entire City. Essential to these efforts is the constant evaluation and examination of new technologies to improve and enhance our abilities to provide the safest and most cost-effective means of delivering police services. In addition to overseeing the maintenance and enhancements of communications equipment for the entire field force, Sgt. Hillman is responsible for the management of the Mobile Command and Communications Unit (MCCU). The MCCU provides a mobile platform for management of personnel and resources for critical incidents, disasters, and special events. It is equipped with a unique RIOS radio interoperability technology. This technology links emergency radio systems utilized by public safety agencies. The system can successfully interconnect a diverse array of radio systems, data networks, and video patching.
