The primary functions of the Patrol Bureau are to provide prompt response to community requests for police assistance and to implement proactive measures that reduce and prevent criminal activity through Comprehensive Community Policing. This past year, the entire Patrol Bureau was trained and equipped with a weapon commonly referred to as a Taser. The acquisition of this conductive energy, less lethal device has increased officer and citizen safety and reduced physical injuries to suspects.
One important measurement of service delivery is response time to emergency calls-for-service. The Police Department Service Delivery Plan calls for emergency call response within five minutes or less.
Priority one and two calls are those that are considered life-threatening or have a risk for serious bodily injury. They include such crimes as, murder, robbery, aggravated assault, and domestic violence, to name just a few.
