May 2011: Rediscover Historic Folsom Celebration

Community members gather for the ribbon cutting ceremony on Historic Sutter Street.

The Eastern Ways Martial Arts Lion Dance Team kicks off the Celebration, symbolizing good luck and paying homage to Folsom's Chinese history.

 Approximately 4,000 residents and visitors enjoyed the festivities on Historic Sutter Street during the Rediscover Historic Folsom Celebration.
 Artie Davies, who has lived in Folsom for 90 years, celebrated her 98th birthday at the Celebration. She served as Folsom's City Clerk for 22 years.
 Graphic historic totems share Folsom's rich history. New facades adorn many historic buildings.

December 2010: Tree Lighting Draws Large Crowds to Sutter Street
 City Council Member Kerri Howell and television personality Dave Bender light the tree. Thousands of residents and visitors enjoyed the ice skating rink, horse-drawn carriage rides and shopping while seeing the improvements to Sutter Street.



December 2010: Sidewalks, Road & Facade Work Continues

November 2010: Around the Clock Construction
 Night-time work included the removal of old sidewalks, the steps in front of Snooks Candies, wooden shed roofs and some canopies.


 Work continued on individualized replacements for old shed roofs.
 Sutter Street visitors enjoy the new sidewalks and check out the granite curbs.
October 2010: Halloween Festivities Amidst Construction

 Night of 1000 Pumpkins and Fallfest were popular events on Sutter Street.
September 2010: Night Work on Sutter Street
 Teichert crews work nights to remove shed roofs that were originally installed during a 1960's modernization effort. The shed roofs will be replaced by individualized facades that complement the historic architecture of the buildings.
 Old sidewalks will soon be replaced by new widened walkways that will pave the way for easy walking on Sutter Street.
August 2010: Shoppers Enjoy Sutter Street during Construction
 Businesses remain open as construction continues.

June/July 2010: Special Events Continue as Construction Progresses
 The popular Cattle Drive, a kick-off for the Folsom Pro Rodeo, drew large crowds to Sutter Street on July 1st. Construction crews are pushing hard to complete underground work before beginning sidewalk demolition and replacement.

May 2010: Kids Get Close Look at Revitalization Project
 Karen Holmes, owner of Karen's Bakery, shares a construction storybook with local kids and parents before they checked out the gold coins at Snooks Candies and the construction equipment.

May 2010: Second Saturday on Historic Sutter Street
 Second Saturday events on Sutter Street continue to attract crowds of residents and visitors.
April 2010: Underground Utility Work

 A Teichert worker sawcuts a utility trench area before his co-workers installed trench shoring boxes. These shoring boxes make the trenches safe for the installion of sewer main pipe.
March 2010: Removal of Medians & Temporary Repaving
The 40-year-old trees in the Sutter Street median were dying and had to be removed for safety reasons. The trees were planted in just 12-18 inches of soil atop the original Highway 50, and the roots were growing sideways, creating pedestrian hazards.

 Note the yellow stripes from old Highway 50 that were visible after the medians were removed.

February 2010: Relocation of Historic Monuments
 Sutter Street's massive solid granite historic monuments were moved to a temporary location for safekeeping during construction. The granite pillars will return to Sutter Street upon completion of the Historic Sutter Street Revitalization Project.

February 2010: Potholing Work on Sutter Street
 The potholing process - digging holes to identify the specific location of underground utilities - was one of the first tasks undertaken by Teichert work crews.
 January 2010: Project Groundbreaking
 City Manager Kerry Miller, Council Member Ernie Sheldon, Vice Mayor Andy Morin, Mayor Jeff Starsky, Council Member Kerri Howell, Historic District Commission Chair Candy Miller and Historic District Association President Jim Snook.
