Full-Service Monthly Nonrecyclable HHW Pickup

State and federal laws prohibit the disposal of HHW through the regular trash.

The City of Folsom provides residents with an innovative program that makes it easy to dispose of more difficult-to-handle nonrecyclable HHW.

The City of Folsom provides monthly collection of difficult-to-handle household hazardous waste such as pesticides, corrosive cleaners and pool chemicals. We have included a list [identifying household hazardous waste] of the different types of waste accepted through this monthly appointment program.

The Identifying Household Hazardous Waste page can help you differentiate which of your items can be recycled through our weekly recyclable HHW program and which of your items are more difficult-to-handle nonrecyclable HHW that can be collected through our monthly program.

The Using Alternative Products page provides information on how to find alternatives to household hazardous products.

Please do not put out your NONRECYCLABLE wastes for pickup when using our weekly program. We will however pick up weekly (recyclable) items with your monthly appointment.

If these Web pages do not answer your questions about which type of service to use to dispose of your waste, e-mail us or give us a call.

Instructions for safely preparing your HHW for pickup.

To have your difficult-to-handle nonrecyclable HHW collected, use our online service appointment form or call our office.

We require that you are at home when we pick up your nonrecyclable household hazardous waste. It is very important that you properly prepare your nonrecyclable household hazardous waste for collection. If there's a chance that your waste item will leak from its container, leave it where it is - City staff will properly package the waste so that it does not leak when we collect it from your house.

Prepare waste for pickup by simply ensuring that it is accessible to Hazmat staff. There is NO need to place it all together in boxes particularly IF THERE IS ANY CHANCE THAT CHEMICALS WILL LEAK AND MIX. If you consolidate your HHW in boxes, only place compatible chemicals near each other. See the images below for more information about preparing your waste for pickup.

IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU KEEP INCOMPATIBLE CHEMICALS FROM COMING INTO CONTACT WITH EACH OTHER. DO NOT PLACE LEAKING CONTAINERS NEXT TO EACH OTHER. DO NOT MIX CHEMICALS. MIXING CHEMICALS CAN CREATE SIGNIFICANT HAZARDS TO YOUR HEALTH AND PROPERTY.
