Sharps Program

  NEW SHARPS DISPOSAL LEGISLATION

As of September 1, 2008, home-generated hypodermic needles cannot go into the trash.

Don't let the sharps attack!

Sharps - such as home-generated hypodermic needles - should be kept out of your residential waste container.

Many Folsom pharmacies accept sharps free of charge. They must be in an approved container, which will be supplied to you at no cost by these pharmacies:

CVS/Longs Drugs 1005 East Bidwell St. 983-5366
CVS/Longs Drugs 9479 Madison Ave. 987-0382
CVS/Longs Drugs 2790 East Bidwell St. 983-8774
Rite Aid 526 East Bidwell St. 984-7749
Savon Drugs 1003 East Bidwell St. 983-4084
Safeway 1850 Prairie City Rd. 608-2455
If your pharmacy is not listed, call first for its acceptance policy.

Important facts:
Sharps include lancets, hypodermic needles, syringes and scalpel blades. They are used by people with medical conditions such as insulin-dependent diabetes.

Sharps can be contaminated by hepatitis, HIV, tetanus and other diseases.

Sharps can injure family members and can be a hazard to the workers collecting and sorting waste and recyclables.

All Folsom Fire Stations are collection points for used sharps.  You can get empty sharps containers from them too!  They only accept sharps if they are staffed...i.e., if they are out on an emergeny call then they will not accept sharps.   Please do not leave abandoned sharps at Fire Stations.   Doing so is illegal.
