Recycling

Welcome to the Recycling Division web page. Our purpose is to enable the City to meet the State mandated 50% landfill diversion requirements stipulated under Assembly Bill AB 939. These requirements take the form of cost-effective community-based programs that ensure efficiency and customer satisfaction.

Folsom SmartCart Recycling Program

The City of Folsom implemented the new SmartCart Recycling Program in October, 2005. The program offers residents a blue cart for mixed recyclables, a labeled black or green cart for yard debris and a gray cart for household trash. The gray garbage cart is serviced weekly and the green waste and recycling carts are serviced every other week. The collection schedule can be used to find the service days for your home.

Why is Recycling Important?

Folsom generates more than 200 tons of waste per day and is expected to see a rapid increase in this amount over the next few years. Recycling considerably reduces the amount of solid waste going to our landfills and helps conserve the Earth's natural resources. It is estimated that 50% of the world's annual wood harvest will soon be used for paper production. Therefore, it is imperative that we become less wasteful and focus our efforts on conserving these valuable resources through reducing, reusing and recycling our waste.
