Sewer Improvement Program

Welcome to the Sewer Improvement Program web page. Here you will find the latest information about the City’s ongoing efforts to maintain a safe and efficient sewer system.

Folsom's sewer collection system consists of over 261 miles of sanitary sewer pipe and 9 pump stations. It is known as a satellite collection system because the City does not own or operate the facilities that treat its wastewater. Instead, through an agreement with the Sacramento Regional County Sanitation District (SRCSD), the City’s wastewater is conveyed through the SRCSD’s regional sewer pipelines for treatment at SRCSD’s Sacramento Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant in Elk Grove.

Maintaining and rehabilitating the City’s sewer system is what the Sewer Improvement Program is all about. To keep wastewater flowing efficiently through the pipes, City crews routinely perform cleaning maintenance to prevent problems like grease accumulation and root intrusion. When maintenance of aging sewer pipes is no longer cost effective, rehabilitation takes over. The links on this page offer information on a few things individuals can do to help keep these maintenance and rehabilitation costs low.
