The Folsom Fire Department provides Basic and Advanced Life Support prehospital emergency medical services from all of our fire stations utilizing cross-trained firefighter/paramedics. These personnel staff all fire vehicles including the engine companies, ladder truck, paramedic ambulances and command vehicles.

The EMS Division is led by Division Chief Mark Piacentini. He also oversees thy daily operations for C-Shift. Chief Piacentini holds an Associates Art Degree in Fire Technology and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Occupational Studies.

Chief Piacentini began his EMS career in 1988 and has been with the Folsom Fire Department since 1995. Chief Piacentini has worked his way up the ranks from Firefighter and has always believed in “Patient Care First”.

The Folsom Fire Department operates three 24-hour advanced life support (ALS) ambulances and staffs every fire engine and fire truck with a minimum of one Paramedic who is capable of ALS care.

In 2017, we responded to over 4,500 medical-related calls. In order to provide and maintain the best quality pre-hospital medical care, our EMS providers take part in continuous medical training and education and participate in a peer review quality assurance program. The Folsom Fire Department participates regionally as a member of the Sacramento County EMS Chiefs Committee, Medical and Operational Advisory Committees, and Hospital Council Committee.

The EMS Division participates in a county-wide resource deployment plan that ensures the closest available paramedics respond to the scene of emergencies, regardless of geopolitical boundaries. This process enables a seamless and reciprocal service delivery system.

The EMS Division also develops and administers various internal training curricula in order to maintain required state and local certifications of emergency personnel. It also provides external education programs for the community, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillator (AED) use.

The Folsom Fire Department has provided the Folsom community with prehospital EMS for many decades and retains the exclusive rights for its delivery and administration in accordance with state law (Health and Safety Code 1797.201). Other agencies shall not provide prehospital EMS within the City of Folsom jurisdiction, as defined by state law, without approval from the City of Folsom Fire Chief in accordance with city law (Folsom Municipal Code 2.24.050).
