Library Volunteers Save Sundays

Folsom Public Library remains open on Sunday afternoons thanks to the volunteer spirit of a new group of library docents.  When budget cutbacks threatened Sunday hours at the Georgia Murray building, the volunteers quickly stepped forward.

“These wonderful volunteer docents now work under the direction of library staff to answer basic questions and help patrons use the self-check system, log onto computers and initiate catalog searches,” says Library Director Katy Curl. “Their efforts made it possible to preserve an important civic amenity.”

Twenty docents serve on rotating teams that work at the library one day a month.   They join an existing group of about 70 long-term library volunteers that donate countless hours year after year.

The Georgia Murray library building on Stafford Street is now open on Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m.; Wednesdays and Thursdays from noon to 8 p.m.; and on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.  The building is closed on Mondays.

The Norman R. Siefkin library building on the campus of Vista del Lago High School is open on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; on Thursdays from noon to 8 p.m.; and on Fridays from 1 to 5 p.m.  This location is closed on Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays.
