City Council Nomination Papers Due Aug. 6

All those interested in serving on the Folsom City Council must submit nomination papers by Aug. 6 to qualify for the November ballot.  Local voters will elect three City Council members in the general election.

The Folsom City Council is composed of five members elected at large for staggered four-year terms.  The seats currently held by Kerri Howell, Steve Miklos and Andy Morin expire this year.  The seats held by Jeff Starsky and Ernie Sheldon expire in 2012.

After the November election, the Council members will select a mayor and vice mayor to serve one-year terms.

“City Council candidates must be residents of Folsom, be registered to vote and be at least 18 years of age,” says City Clerk Christa Freemantle. “Those interested should call to schedule an appointment to pull nomination papers prior to Aug. 6.”

Freemantle notes that if any of the current Council members decline to seek a new term, the nomination period will be extended to Aug. 13.

Nomination papers are available between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the City Clerk’s Department in City Hall, 50 Natoma St.  Candidates must obtain signatures of 20 Folsom registered voters and pay a $25 filing fee.
