Use of Fireworks During Diwali/Deepavali Festival of Lights

The Indian festival of Diwali or Deepavali, also known as the Festival of Lights, is traditionally celebrated with the use of California State Fire Marshal registered Safe and Sane fireworks. The use of approved fireworks in conjunction with this festival may occur between the hours of 12 p.m. on Saturday, November 7 through 9 p.m. on Sunday, November 15 in the City of Folsom.  The use of dangerous and illegal fireworks is still prohibited within all areas of the City of Folsom.

The City of Folsom Fire Department is asking the public to take the following precautions when using fireworks during the festival period:

o   Make sure the firework has the State Fire Marshal “Safe and Sane” seal

o   The use of fireworks for this celebration must be conducted under adult supervision at all times

o   Have a bucket of water, sand or garden hose available at firing sites

o   Read all instructions before use

o   Never alter, modify or enhance fireworks – use only in the manner intended

o   Make sure fireworks have proper clearance from flammable materials including dry grass  and brush

Festival activities that require the closure of public streets and or use of public facilities may require the issuance of either a Special Event permit or Block Party permit prior to the event date.  Please contact the City of Folsom Community Development Department Permit Counter at 50 Natoma Street, call 355-7214, or click here for additional details regarding these permit requirements.
