Folsom Time Trial Route Announcement

Stage 2: Monday, May 12 – Folsom (Individual Time Trial)
Start Location: Sutter Street
Finish Location: Liedersdorff Street & Wool Street
Start Time: 1:05 p.m.
Stage Length: 12.5 miles

Designed for speed, the 12.5-mile route will begin and finish in Folsom's Historic District.  A start on Sutter Street will be followed by a turn onto Riley and a short downhill run onto the Rainbow Bridge and over the American River.  The rotue will then turn north on Folsom Auburn Road toward Folsom Lake.  A right turn onto Folsom Lake Crossing will take the riders past California's second oldest prison. A turn onto Green Valley will lead the riders to a 180-degree turn back over the same route to finish downtown.

“An opportunity to showcase our beautiful city to a world-wide audience is rare and invaluable to our long-term economic vitality,” says City Manager Evert Palmer.  “NBC Sports will cover the event live and more than 100 journalists will be in town to report on the race.”

Palmer notes that this large-scale event will have traffic impacts and that some people will be inconvenienced.  Roads on the race course will be open for the morning and evening commute, but will be closed much of the day.

“Professional traffic engineers are developing a detailed traffic control plan,” says Palmer.  “We are also working closely with Police and Fire on emergency response coordination, with our Solid Waste Division to avoid service disruptions, with schools, the prison and other key stakeholders.”

In the coming weeks City staff will reach out to businesses and residents that will be most impacted, as well as large employers, and neighbors in Placer and El Dorado counties.
