Spring Break Travel Crime Prevention Tips

Post Date:04/11/2025 11:30 a.m.

As residents make plans to travel during spring break, the Folsom Police Department encourages taking a few simple precautions to help keep your home safe while you're away.

  • Request a Vacation Check. Volunteers with the Citizens Assisting Public Safety (CAPS) program can provide an extra set of eyes on your home while you're out of town. Learn more and sign up online.
  • Pause deliveries or enlist a neighbor. Suspend mail and package deliveries or ask a trusted friend or neighbor to collect them daily. Porch pirates don’t take time off—avoid scheduling deliveries in the days leading up to your trip.
  • Secure your home. Set indoor and outdoor lights on timers, lock all doors and windows, and ensure the garage door is completely closed.
  • Wait to share vacation photos. Posting pictures while away may alert potential burglars that your home is unoccupied. Share your memories once you’re back.
