The Folsom City Council approved an equipment purchase on September 9 to support a pilot project introducing flashing yellow arrows at four intersections along Natoma Street.
The new signals will allow drivers to make left turns after yielding to oncoming traffic—helping improve flow, reduce delays, and lower vehicle emissions. The project is funded by the city’s Transportation Improvement Fund and includes necessary equipment for the pilot project at Prison Road, Wales Drive, Stafford Street, and Coloma Street.
Flashing yellow arrows are already used in nearby cities like Roseville and Elk Grove. The Folsom Public Works Department will monitor the pilot’s results and present the findings to the City Council to seek guidance on whether to expand the program citywide.
The flashing yellow arrow pilot program is expected to be operational by late 2025 or early 2026. Educational outreach will occur before the new signals are activated.
