To make it easier and more efficient for property owners to complete smaller projects in Historic Folsom, the City of Folsom is proposing amendments to the zoning code (Folsom Municipal Code Chapter 17.52).

The update would allow city staff to approve certain smaller projects, such as additions, remodels, accessory structures, signs, and non-historic demolitions, without review by the Historic District Commission. Staff also recommend reducing entitlement fees for these smaller projects. These changes are intended to shorten approval times, reduce costs for applicants, and improve overall efficiency in the entitlement process.

Staff is also proposing to add new limits on accessory structures, such as height, size, and placement, to help preserve the district’s historic character and to be consistent with the standards used outside of the historic district.

The Historic District Commission recommended approval of the proposed code changes. The Folsom City Council will consider the item at its meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 14 in the City Council Chambers, 50 Natoma Street. Meeting materials, including the text of the proposed code amendment, will be available on the City Council webpage for the October 14 meeting.
