Weed Abatement Requirements Help Keep Folsom Fire Safe

Post Date:04/07/2026 2:44 p.m.

Fire safety is a shared responsibility in Folsom. As temperatures rise, dry vegetation can quickly become a fire hazard, making proper weed abatement essential for protecting homes and neighborhoods.

Private property owners are required to follow weed abatement practices to maintain community safety. These practices involve removing flammable vegetation and establishing defensible spaces around properties to prevent fire spread, with all abatements to be completed by June 1 annually.

Inspections are carried out by the Folsom Fire Department on vacant lots and by Folsom Code Enforcement on residential properties to ensure compliance and enhance safety against wildfires.

If you notice an area in need of weed abatement, first check the abatement schedules on the City of Folsom website. Weed abatement requirements for Folsom property owners are listed online.

After June 1, to report a weed abatement issue on vacant private property, email Deputy Fire Marshal Michelle Toledo at mltoledo@folsom.ca.us.
