As residents host gatherings over Memorial Day weekend, proper waste sorting can help reduce landfill waste and support composting efforts. Food scraps—including meat, bones, eggs, bread, baked goods, melon rinds, and spoiled foods—should be collected in a clear plastic or compostable bag along with paper towels, popsicle sticks, toothpicks, skewers, and other food-soiled paper, then placed in the green organics bin. Empty cans and bottles should go in the blue recycling bin, while items like Styrofoam plates and plastic cutlery belong in the gray garbage bin.
