Folsom residents and businesses are making a real difference. Over the past four years, the community’s commitment to using the Green Bin for food scraps, food-soiled paper, and yard waste has helped divert nearly 51,000 tons of organic material from the landfill. By keeping organic materials out of the trash, landfill space is preserved, greenhouse gas emissions are reduced, and waste is transformed into useful products such as compost and mulch that support healthier soil. Folsom’s organics collection program also supports compliance with California state requirements mandating the separation of organic waste. Participation is simple:

• Bag food scraps and food-soiled paper in clear plastic or compostable bags. 
• Place them in the Green Bin along with loose yard waste.
