This summer, the Folsom Public Library and Folsom History present USA 250, a communitywide series commemorating the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. Funded by a grant from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services and the California State Library, residents of all ages are invited to explore the nation's past, present and future through engaging educational experiences. Events and activities include:

• Public lecture: Zachary Vaccarezza, Folsom History's engagement manager, will discuss the evolving understanding of the American Revolution over the past 250 years on Saturday, July 25, at 11 a.m. in the Folsom Public Library Meeting Room, 411 Stafford Street, Folsom.
• Looking Back, Looking Forward: A USA 250 Time Capsule Experience: This hands-on exhibit pairs national milestones with local history while inviting visitors to create a personal time capsule. Through reproduction artifacts and interactive activities, participants will explore how everyday objects become historical evidence and receive materials to create a time capsule connecting their own story to the nation's 250-year journey. The exhibit is open Saturdays and Sundays in July, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at The Square, 196 Wool Street. 
• Book discussion kits: Four book discussion kits are available for checkout from the Library. Each kit includes 15 copies of a book and sample discussion questions.
• "This Land Is Your Land: A Road Trip Through U.S. History," by Beverly Gage
• "1776," by David McCullough
• "We the Women," by Norah O'Donnell
• "African Founders," by David Hackett Fischer
• Free copies of founding documents: The Library will distribute 250 free copies of the "Constitution of the United States" and the "Declaration of Independence" as part of its USA 250 programming.
