As part of Parks Make Life Better! Month, the City of Folsom is celebrating the Power of Community by recognizing an award-winning project that demonstrates what can be accomplished through collaboration.

The City of Folsom Parks & Recreation Department is proud to announce that Prospector Park has received the 2026 American Public Works Association (APWA) Sacramento Chapter Project of the Year Award in the Parks & Trails category.

The prestigious award recognizes excellence in planning, design, construction, sustainability, and collaboration. Prospector Park was honored for transforming an undeveloped site into a vibrant neighborhood destination that promotes recreation, wellness, and community connection while reflecting the needs and priorities of the surrounding community.

A key element of the project's success was the extensive public engagement conducted throughout the planning process. Through community meetings, surveys, and stakeholder outreach, residents helped shape the park's vision and amenities, ensuring the final design reflected the community's input and aspirations.

The award also recognizes the outstanding teamwork behind the project. Led by Parks Planning Manager Brad Nelson, the successful completion of Prospector Park was made possible through the collaboration of City staff, consultants, contractors, elected officials, the Parks and Recreation Commission, and countless community members whose ideas, support, and partnership helped bring the vision to life.
