Water Smarter with High-Efficiency Sprinklers

Post Date:07/31/2026 12:10 p.m.

Outdoor watering can account for a significant share of household water use, especially during hot summer months. A few simple irrigation upgrades can help keep landscapes healthy while reducing water waste. The City of Folsom offers rebates for water customers who upgrade to qualifying smart sprinkler timers and high-efficiency rotary nozzles, helping make these water-saving improvements more affordable.

High-efficiency sprinklers and rotary nozzles apply water more slowly and evenly than conventional spray sprinklers, giving water more time to soak into the soil and reach plant roots instead of running off.

Water-saving tips include:

  • Upgrade sprinkler nozzles. Rotator sprinklers can use up to 30% less water than conventional spray sprinklers.
  • Watch for runoff. Shorten watering times or use multiple shorter cycles if water begins flowing onto sidewalks or streets.
  • Check sprinklers regularly. Repair broken, clogged, tilted, or misaligned sprinkler heads.
  • Consider a smart sprinkler timer. Weather-based controllers can automatically adjust watering based on local conditions.
  • Look for rebates. Rebates may be available for qualifying smart sprinkler timers and high-efficiency rotary nozzles.

Small irrigation improvements can add up to meaningful water savings while helping landscapes thrive throughout the summer.
