Quick action by alert neighbors and a rapid response from nearby fire crews limited damage to the exterior of a home during a residential fire in the 100 block of Chesterfield Way Thursday morning.

At 10:50 a.m., neighbors contacted the Sacramento Regional Fire Emergency Communications Center to report a fence fire. While units were en route, dispatchers received updated information that the fire had spread to the roof, prompting an upgrade to a complete first-alarm assignment.

A Folsom Fire Department battalion chief and engine, alongside a Sacramento Metro Fire District engine and truck company, were already on the road in the immediate area. This proximity allowed crews to arrive on scene within 4 minutes, quickly bringing the fire under control, and stop flames from spreading into the living quarters.

No injuries to firefighters or members of the public were reported. Utility service is currently being repaired.

"Neighbors quick thinking and calling 911 and our swift response from firefighters kept damage to the exterior of the home," said Nick Lawlor, Folsom Fire Department Public Information Officer.

The cause of the fire remains under active investigation. Early indications point to an exterior electrical issue, but no official cause has been determined.

General Safety Reminder

The Folsom Fire Department always encourages community members to check home smoke detectors regularly.  This home had working smoke detector, however this is often not the case.

• Check batteries: Ensure batteries are in good working order, and test detectors monthly.
• Check expiration dates: Many smoke detectors expire after 10 years. Expirations often trigger harmless end-of-life alerts or chirps, indicating the unit needs complete replacement.
