Steve Miklos was elected to the Folsom City Council in November 1994 and currently serves as vice mayor. He previously served as mayor in 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2009 and 2013; and as vice mayor in 1996, 1997, 2008 and 2012.
He is a director and former chair of the Sacramento Area Council of Governments (SACOG). As a board member, Steve continues to address Folsom’s traffic issues by securing funds from Federal and State government for the following projects: the Folsom-Auburn Road Widening Project, the US 50 Empire Ranch Road Interchange, the extension of light rail to downtown Folsom, the construction of a downtown park and ride lot, a study of US 50 corridor alignments for the extension of light rail to El Dorado County, and the completed Riley Street extension.
Steve has been a director of the Association of California Cities Aligned with Public Safety (ACCAPS) since 2000. He served as president in 2010 and 2011, as as vice president in 2009 and 2010. In recent years, Steve served as chairman of the Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCO) and chairman of the Folsom Redevelopment Agency Board. He also served as chair of the Sacramento Transportation Authority, the Folsom El Dorado County JPA and the Elk Grove El Dorado County Connector JPA. His lobbying efforts help secure funding for the Prairie City interchange, Lake Natoma Crossing and Folsom Lake Crossing.
Steve recognizes the importance of providing recreational opportunities within the city limits. He helped negotiate the dedication of more than 47 acres of open space donated to the City in the Humbug-Willow Creek corridor, endorsed the construction of the Folsom Aquatics Center and the Empire Ranch Golf Course, and supported the building of the Georgia Murray Library Building and the Senior and Arts Center at 48 Natoma. He also launched the popular Mayors Cup Golf Tournament to raise funds for The Cave Teen Centers and developed the Art-in-the Mayor’s Office program.
Steve is Chair of the Folsom Economic Development Corporation (FEDCorp), and has served as a director every year since the organization was founded in 1996. He is a member and past Director of the Folsom Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Folsom Masons and the Folsom Historical Society, and a longtime supporter and sponsor of the many Folsom youth sports and civic organizations.
A native Californian, Steve is a licensed California Real Estate Broker who started Bentley Mortgage & Real Estate Services in Folsom in 1987. He studied business administration at Los Angeles Pierce College, fire science at Los Angeles Valley College and received his paramedic certification from the UCLA/Harbor Medical Center.
