City Council Elections

The City of Folsom operates under a charter approved by voters in 1990, which establishes a five-member City Council elected by city residents. Council members serve four-year terms that commence on the second Monday in December following their election.

To ensure continuity of governance, terms are staggered with three council members elected in one election cycle and two members elected in the subsequent cycle. The City Council designates a mayor and vice mayor from among its members, who serve at the discretion of the Council.
