The City of Folsom is dedicated to open government and ensuring our community stays informed. We are pleased to provide access to public records in accordance with the California Public Records Act (CPRA), which governs the public's right to access documents and information held by public agencies.
How to Submit a Request
1. Online Portal - The easiest and fastest way to request public records is through our online Public Records Portal. The portal provides a user-friendly platform to:

What to Expect After You Submit
Upon receiving your request, the City will begin working to identify and locate the requested records.
- Initial Response: In accordance with the CPRA, the City will provide a response within 10 days to let you know if responsive records exist. In some cases, such as for requests seeking an extensive volume of records or older records which may be stored off-site, additional time may be needed. You will be advised of the anticipated extension.
- Fulfillment: We will notify you when the records are ready for inspection or delivery. If any fees are associated with your request, we will provide a cost estimate before proceeding.
Fee Structure
Most public records are available at no cost to requesters. Below is our comprehensive fee schedule. Please note that certain Police and Fire records have specific fees, and you will be advised of the amount based upon your individual request.
- Record Examination - No charge for reviewing records on-site
- Electronic Records - Provided at no cost via email or digital download
- Standard Copies - $0.10 per page for letter or legal-sized documents (first 10 pages complimentary)
- Oversized Copies - $5.00 per page for documents larger than legal size
Exemptions
Please note that certain records may be exempt from disclosure under the provisions of the CPRA to protect individual privacy, safety, and other vital interests (e.g., records related to pending litigation or confidential law enforcement information). If any portion of your request is denied, the City will provide a written explanation.
