In California, it is against the law to put sharps in the trash, including lancets, hypodermic needles, syringes and scalpel blades. Sharps can be contaminated, injure family members and be a hazard to the workers collecting and sorting waste and recyclables. Folsom Fire Station 35 is the City's only collection site for the Sharps Disposal Program. The containers may be dropped off ONLY if a Fire Department attendant is present to accept it. Sharps can only be accepted if they are sealed inside an approved sharps container, or unused, and in the originally sealed package. Approved sharps containers can be obtained at no cost at Station 35. Free sharps disposals can also be done at various locations citywide.
