L'Etape California Coming to Folsom

The annual L'Etape California by Le Tour de France is a mass participation bike ride open to the public and to road cyclists of all skill levels. For the first time, the City of Folsom and Visit Folsom are proud to host this event over the Labor Day weekend, August 31 through September 2, 2018. L'Etape is produced by AEG and A.S.O., the same organizations that present the annual Amgen Tour of California cycling event.

"The City of Folsom is incredibly proud to host L'Etape California by Le Tour de France. This event brings national and international awareness to Folsom's world-class cycling routes, iconic landmarks, distinctive scenery and bike-friendly community," said Mayor Steve Miklos. "It will be a cycling double header this year with the professional Amgen Tour of California race in May followed by the L'Etape public ride in the fall. The City, our partners and avid cycling community look forward to welcoming competitors and spectators to Folsom."

L'Etape California begins the afternoon of Friday, August 31 with on-site registration and packet pick-up, and a Cycling and Lifestyle Expo at the Palladio in Folsom. The Expo and registration continue Saturday, September 1. Attendees will enjoy family-friendly activities, vendor booths, French food and culture, and the traveling Tour de France Museum that includes a virtual reality experience. A Tour de France cycling legend will be on hand to answer questions and share what it's like to compete at the highest level on the professional racing circuit.

The L'Etape bike rides take place Sunday, September 2 with two route options: a full ride through 90 miles and 7,500 feet of climbing, or the short ride through 50 miles and 4,000 feet of climbing. The rides are designed to challenge cyclists on a course comparable to an Alps Mountain stage of the famous Tour de France. Both of the L'Etape courses start and finish in Folsom, and include the beautiful scenery of the Sierra foothills.
