Vista del Lago Capacity and Parking Issues
Vista del Lago High School continues to experience its largest student enrollment since it opened more than a decade ago. The Folsom Cordova Unified School District Board of Education has taken steps to manage school capacity for the upcoming 2019-20 school year, and the district will engage the community in the coming months to review school boundaries to help permanently alleviate overcrowding.
When the high school was built, enrollment projections determined the number of parking spaces that were allotted. Now, due to the unprecedented student enrollment and changes to the California teen driving laws, those spaces are at premium.
The City of Folsom and the school district are collaborating on solutions to minimize parking issues at Vista del Lago High School. City staff will provide a report at the April 12 Folsom Parks & Recreation Commission with details about the Nisenan Park parking plan
, which provides signage to reserve 16 spaces for the exclusive use of park patrons. The remaining 35 spaces in the parking lot will be available on a first-come, first-served basis for students and the general public. The Empire Trail also provides access to the park for cyclists and pedestrians.
The street entrance to Nisenan Park provides an additional 32 spaces for student and general public parking. Students may still park legally on portions of some streets adjacent to the high school where permitted; compliance with all posted signage is required.
