Celebrate 80 years of history, community, and hometown pride at this free, family-friendly event!

Saturday, May 9, 2026 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Folsom City Lions Park & the Folsom City Zoo Sanctuary Admission is FREE

Guests can enjoy a full lineup of activities throughout the day, including the return of the popular Snail Race competition, live entertainment, train rides, and classic carnival-style games. The event also features free admission to the Folsom City Zoo Sanctuary for children 12 and under, with free entry available for the first 500 youth guests accompanied by a paid adult, along with a dessert walk, food trucks, and interactive booths hosted by community partners.

Snail Races Return for Folsom’s 80th Celebration

Ready… Set… Sloooow.

The Great Folsom Snail Race returns as part of the City of Folsom’s 80th birthday celebration on Saturday, May 9 at Folsom City Lions Park.

This fun, family-friendly tradition invites kids, residents and businesses to enter their fastest (or slowest!) snail for a chance to win prizes and bragging rights. All participants will receive a commemorative Snail Race T-shirt.

The Snail Race includes youth, business, and open divisions, with commemorative shirts available for participants.

Races take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with preliminary heats leading to quarterfinals, and beyond.

Launched in 1981, the Great Folsom Snail Race became a beloved community tradition, bringing together families, businesses and local leaders throughout the 1980s and 1990s.

Birthday Events at the Folsom Public Library

The Folsom Public Library is joining the celebration with party-themed activities for kids and families.

Folsom City Zoo Sanctuary

The zoo will be open 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. with free entry for children 12 and under (first 500 youth guests with paid adult). Docents and helpful answer people will be stationed throughout the zoo to share fun facts and answer questions.

  • Docent Biofact Tables — Canid Patio, Bear Deck, and near the Reptile House (9 – 11 a.m. and 11 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.)

Dessert Walk

Join the fun at the Dessert Walk, a lively game where participants have a chance to win delicious treats throughout the day.

Special Birthday Cake: Complimentary cake will be available here at the Dessert Walk table starting at 11:30 a.m. immediately following the "Happy Birthday" singing!

How It Works

  • 24 participants play each round
  • Spots are filled on a first-come basis
  • Walk around the circle while music plays
  • When the music stops, stand on a number
  • Three numbers are selected each round
  • If your number is selected, you win a dessert

Winners can pick up their prize at the Folsom Public Library!

Dessert Walk

Local bakers and businesses are invited to help sweeten the City of Folsom’s 80th birthday celebration by donating desserts for the community Dessert Walk. Treats such as cookies, cupcakes, pastries, and other sweet favorites will be shared with event guests at the family-friendly celebration on Saturday, May 9, at City Lions Park. Donations will be picked up from participating businesses in advance, and donors will be recognized with event signage and website promotion.
