    291041 - Junior Zookeeper Camp

    291041 - Junior Zookeeper Camp

    Junior Zookeeper Camp
NEW: Each week of camp includes different activities! Join us for multiple weeks to enhance your camp experience.
Weekly curriculum: each morning includes zookeeping tasks like cleaning exhibits and hiding enrichment while the animals are locked safely in their dens. When we finish, you’ll experience the fun of watching the animals enjoy their special treats. Afternoon activities: we’ll relocate to the zoo’s air conditioned classroom to engage in hands-on activities and create enrichment projects like making giant frozen ice pops, handmade piñatas, and special puzzles for the animals. Campers will get to meet some of the zoo’s animals, which may include a ferret, skunk, tortoise, and prairie dog. Each week of camp also includes visits by special guests, ranging from veterinarians, to wildlife care volunteers, to an officer and horse from Folsom P.D.’s mounted patrol unit.
Each camp week has a different theme and focus; for example, “Predators vs. Prey Week,” where campers will clean wolf and Zebu exhibits; create enrichment for tigers, foxes and rabbits; and may feed browse to the deer or dissect owl pellets. Another week’s theme, “Our Wild Neighbors,” includes cleaning the exhibits of the bears and mountain lions; making enrichment for raccoons, ravens and bobcats; and could include building bat boxes and going on a nature walk. Just as with the real behind-the-scenes daily life at the zoo, camp activities may be altered to correspond to the current needs of the animals, weather conditions, and other factors.
